Person with Chronic Illness Consult on topic of trauma and physical symptoms

Person with Chronic Illness Consult

$300.00

A trauma and chronic illness consult is a one-on-one virtual session by phone or zoom for adults living with chronic illness or other physical symptoms. We can explore any chronic illness(es) or physical symptoms. You don’t have to have a diagnosis.

A chronic illness consult focuses on the role of trauma and effects on your nervous system to influence symptoms, triggers and flares. We can explore any aspect of your health journey, past or present.

Whether you are new to the topic of trauma or deeply experienced, our time together is tailored specifically to you.

You might want a bigger context for making sense of your symptoms or flares, or to explore how to work with stubborn symptoms or symptoms that feel stuck.

We can examine nuanced approaches to consider in support of your healing, including how trauma can influence side effects, As such, we can look at your system and perceptions of threat, which often involve triggers. We often have blind spots that can make triggers easier to identify with another person who understands trauma. We can also look at how your symptoms may be driven by states of fight, flight, freeze or most likely some unique combination of these.

Not Psychotherapy or Medical Care

Since I am no longer in clinical practice as a psychotherapist or medical doctor we do not work directly with physical or emotional symptoms. Instead your trauma and chronic illness consult focuses on information, education and exploration. You can then work with this information yourself and/or bring it to therapy or other professionals you work with in your healing. I can suggest resources on where to look for therapists with relevant specialties.

Example Topics for a Chronic Illness Consult

– explore events that trigger(ed) onset of your chronic illness

– why addressing the triggering event is often not enough for healing (and what helps instead)

– 8 categories of adversity that influence risk for chronic illness (and how to work with these)

– possible ways to reduce severity or frequency of flares, and work to delay and prevent flares

– what is driving your biology, physiology or epigenetics into symptoms? (it’s not in your head)

– additional tools for healing, context, alleviating self-blame

– aide for how to strategize around your treatment decisions

– research articles to give your doctor (or family, insurance or disability company) and others

– fact sheets to educate your doctors / friends / family / other loved ones

– context for treatment side effects

– when effective treatments stop working (why and what to do about it)

My fee for a 60-minute consult is $300 in your currency, payable in US dollars. If this is not within your financial means or if your payment involves an international exchange rate, see my tiered fee structure.

Your Information

In contrast to psychotherapy, which I no longer offer, consults focus on information, context for symptoms, and tips. We will not work directly with physical or emotional symptoms in our consult.

Have we met or interacted before, such as in person or through my blog? Please tell or remind me.

A little about you

To help me orient so we can make the best of our time, please tell me a little about yourself. Describe the reason for your consult, including any chronic illnesses you’d like to discuss. What are the outcomes you desire? If you are a health professional, tell me your profession and specialty area (Psychotherapy? Bodyworker?…). If you are a student, include what you are training or aiming towards. Is there anything else you’d like me to know?

I will contact you by phone or send you a zoom link. You will receive the zoom link again about 30 minutes before your scheduled consult.
