Welcome from the online summit “Getting to the Root of Disease” and to anyone else who has discovered this page. Even though the summit was in October, 2019 and is no longer available, you can still get some practical resources here.
The link below is for my free ebook “The Chronic Illness and Trauma Connection: An Overview” that I mention in my talk on “How Adversity Affects Risk for Disease and Why It’s Not in Your Head.”
I wrote this book to explain why it’s not psychological, not your fault and not because you’re weak or have a personality flaw.
I present the science and give you links and tools to make sense of symptoms and support your journey of healing.
Book 1 is an introduction that explains how different kinds of adverse life experiences affect risk for chronic illnesses of all kinds, including autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes and MS; and other diseases such as asthma, chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), fibromylagia, Parkinson’s; “mystery” and environmental illness; chronic pain, and more.
The effects of trauma go well beyond psychological symptoms and the science is discovering why symptoms can be so severe and difficult to treat with conventional medicine.
Difficult life experiences also affect risk for mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety and complex PTSD.
It is helpful and offers hope to know there are many effective tools for healing the effects of trauma and that it’s possible to do so even years or decades after the event or experiences happened.
Understanding trauma is one way to get to the root of disease.
The book includes
- tools for healing
- examples of how healing trauma helps heal chronic illness
- different types of trauma that affect risk (and the science behind it)
- links to some of the best books on the subject so you can learn more
- powerful stories of people who have improved or recovered from chronic illness by healing the effects of trauma
Understanding links to symptoms, triggers, and flare-ups is empowering, will give you more control over your life, and will help you find good tools that help with chronic illness. It will help you make sense of – and get to – the new understanding about the root of disease.
